Largest simultaneous virtual reality experience: world record set in Boston
BOSTON, MA, USA -- A total of 2,057 neurosurgeons simulate brain surgery at the same time at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, during the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, thus setting the new world record for the Largest simultaneous virtual reality experience, according to the World Record Academy. The previous world record, set in March at an automotive simulation in Canada was 1,867.
The demonstration, using a mobile application from Ohio-based Surgical Theater, highlights ways in which neurosurgeons can map out plans to approach procedures, The Boston Globe reports.
The images used in preparation are built using the actual patients' brain images from scans including CT scans and MRIs, and Surgical Theater said research shows its technology can help surgeons figure out their approaches with greater precision.
