Most shoes collected for recycling: National Geographic Kids broke Guinness world record (VIDEO)
Washington D.C., USA -- 16,407 used running shoes donated by kids worldwide and celebrity donations from Taylor Swift, One Direction, Danica Patrick, Amanda Beard and Eli Manning filled the long driveway of the National Geographic Society in downtown Washington, setting the new world record for the Most shoes collected for recycling,

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest collection of clothes to recycle: 117,376 - achieved by Multi Mall Management (Portugal) in Montijo, Lisbon, Portugal.
The Guinness world record for the most plastic bags recycled in 8 hours is 120,000 and was achieved by Consorzio SEA (Italy) in Fossano, Italy .
An official from the Guinness World Records confirmed the pile of donated, used sneakers outside National Geographic headquarters on 17th Street NW is the largest collection of shoes to be recycled.
National Geographic said the shoes, if they were laid together as a chain, would stretch more than two miles.
Nike's Reuse-a-Shoe program mashes up the sneakers into material that helps create surfaces for soccer fields, playgrounds and basketball and tennis courts, said Rachel Buchholz, managing editor of National Geographic Kids.
