The Guinness world record for the most people dribbling a football (soccer ball) simultaneously was 2,068 in an event organized by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Gaza Field Office (Palestinian Entity, West Bank-Gaza) in Rafah, Gaza Strip.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most vuvuzelas blown simultaneously was achieved by 12,511 spectators at the Vodacom Challenge soccer match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
"What a triumph for the city of Toronto, for BMO employees, our partners and for Kids Help Phone," said Su McVey, Vice President, BMO Bank of Montreal.
"This achievement gives everyone who participated a place in the record books and reinforces Toronto's standing as a world class city that knows how to have fun and how to help those in need."
BMO had committed to donate $10,000 to Kids Help Phone if the city could break the world record.
The AIR MILES Reward Program and MasterCard Canada joined BMO, each pledging to match the bank's donation for a total donation of $30,000.
BMO is also donating the 1,288 soccer balls, which were used to create the record-breaking mosaic, to The Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Team Up Foundation, which will distribute the balls to youth across Canada as part of their effort to empower youth through sports and recreation.
