The Guinness world record for the most people wearing paper hats simultaneously is 972 and was achieved by Aisin Aw.Co., Ltd. (Japan) in Anjo, Aichi, Japan.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people throwing mortar boards simultaneously: 295, achieved by students in an event organised for London and Partners, as part of World Record London, at More London, London
The previous world record was set in Belgium in January 2012 when just more than 600 people took part in the culinary-themed challenge.
The record-breaking attempt was to raise money for Heart FM's Have a Heart Appeal which is supporting three charities who grant wishes to seriously and terminally ill children, the Eastern Daily Press reported.
When asked what it was like being part of a world record attempt, Ian Clayton, principal of the Laundry Lane school, said: "It was exciting, hopefully it is one of those memories of school that the pupils will look back on in years to come – the day we broke a world record."
