Most Expensive Bread: Juan Manuel Moreno breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

Algatocin, Spain -- The world's most expensive bread was baked with pure gold at Pan Pina bakery in the village of Algatocin, located in Andalusia; the gold leaf bread costs €117 euros ($146.40) for 400 grammes (14 ounces), and is exported throughout Spain's Costa del Sol region, Russia and Middle Eastern countries
, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.
The 400 gram (14 ounce) loaves made at the Pan Piña bakery contain whole wheat dough and spelt with dehydrated honey. The loaves also contain one key extra ingredient: 250 milligrams of gold dust with a value of €100. Juan Manuel Moreno, who is co-owner of the Pan Piña bakery in the village of Algatocin in Spain, says that the gold dust he adds to his bread is perfectly edible and does not in any way threaten people's health.

The Guinness World Records' record for the most people spreading spread on bread simultaneously is 435 and was achieved by Maison de l'Emploi, de la Formation et de l'Entreprise (France), in Mutzig, Alsace, France, on 23 September 2013.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most pieces of naan bread made in one hour by a team of five; it is 640 and was achieved by Indian Ocean Restaurant (UK) in Ashton-under-Lyne, UK, on 29 September 2009. The naan breads were made in traditional tandoor ovens.

Juan Manuel Moreno, a co-owner at the bakery told Spain's ABC newspaper he came up with the idea after seeing the 'world's most expensive coffee' on sale at another business in the region.

"The gold itself has no real taste," the 41-year-old said. "It just adds a certain sparkle, a lustre to each loaf. The rest of the ingredients are organic and super healthy. People believe small amounts of gold are good for the digestion."

Moreno's family has been running Pan Piña for the past 70 years. They produce over 50 varieties of bread, and the gold leaf is their most expensive loaf yet.

Moreno says Arab, Russian and Chinese buyers based on the Costa de Sol have shown the most interest in the bread. However, a national supermarket chain is set to start selling the product while a restaurant in Ronda has expressed an interest.
