The Guinness World Records' record for the longest spring roll measured 500 m (1,640 ft 5 in) and was made in an event organised by APOT.Asia (Australia), in Da Nang, Vietnam, on 5 June 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest cake roll; it is 325.23 m (1,067 ft 0.21 in) and was achieved by Azusa Daiichi High School (Japan) at Tokyo Dome City Prism Hall in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, on 1 October 2015.

The challenge was part of a festival on Geogeumdo, an island of Goheung County. The goal was to make a 1,040-meter gimbap, but it ended up 304 meters longer.

About 600 kilograms of Goheung rice and 21,000 pieces of dried seaweed from the waters of Geogeumdo were used.

Gimbap or kimbap is a Korean dish made from steamed white rice (bap) and various other ingredients, rolled in gim (sheets of dried laver seaweed) and served in bite-size slices.
Gimbap is often eaten during picnics or outdoor events, or as a light lunch, served with danmuji or kimchi.

The Korea Record Institute, which register records with World Record Academy, measured the gimbap and presented a record certificate to the festival's organizing committee.

The previous world record was a 1,030 meter gimbap made in the southeastern city of Daegu in August 2013.
