  Largest serving of fried chicken - Indiana’s Canoefest sets world record

  BROOKVILLE, Ind., USA -- At Indiana’s Canoefest, Brookville’s favorite deep-fried fowl tipped the scale at 1,654 pounds - setting the new world record for the Largest serving of fried chicken.

   The previous Guinness World Record for the Largest serving of fried chicken was 1,278 pounds and 11 ounces, held by a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

   For Jerry Short, chairman of the Guinness Book of World Records attempt at Canoefest, it was time to bring the record to the “fried chicken capital of the universe.”

    The World's Largest serving of fried chicken was served in a canoe donated by Osagian Canoes. Anyone who purchased a $10 souvenir ticket could eat as much of the chicken as they wanted.

   Between 120 and 200 volunteers did the frying.

   “Anywhere within a stone's throw right here you can get fried chicken,” he said. “We are the Mecca of chicken.” Short said between 120 and 200 volunteers fried 2,700 pounds of donated chicken. The record-breaking poultry was served up in a donated canoe.

   Short said the feat proves “KFC should have been IFC.” “Of all things, Col. Sanders was born in Indiana,” he said. “He’s a Hoosier.”
