Largest Hamburger - world record set by Chef Ted Reader

TORONTO, Canada -- Chef and food entertainer Ted Reader, 46, and a 10-member crew made for Napoleon® Gourmet Grills a hamburger with a weight of 590 pounds (267.6 kilograms) - setting the new world record for the Largest Hamburger.

It took six hours to grill this 590-pound hamburger at Yonge-Dundas Square; the grilled patty was then nestled in a 48-kilogram bun, dressed with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, red onions, pickles and barbecue sauce.

"All I want today is to build the world's biggest burger and so we try rally to break the record," he said as he unveiled the beast. " The size is more than 300 times the burger we eat every day."

The previous Guinness world record for the Largest Hamburger was a 185.8-pound hamburger.

The Largest Hamburger in the World was made with approximately 300lbs of beef and weighed in at 590lbs, almost tripling the current world record.

The massive patty has been slow cooking on a custom built barbeque with a built-in forklift mechanism designed to flip the oversized culinary creation.

They then topped it off with all the fixings a burger needs, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and barbeque sauce.

Reader expects to put his gargantuan burger on his catering menu. "All I did is for fun and the burger helped me to find fun."

The World's Largest Hamburger has also raised over $8,500 for charity, benefiting a camp program for children with burn injuries.

Ted Reader, the barbecue guru, is on a cross-Canada tour to promote his new cookbook, Napoleon's Everyday Gourmet Burgers.

His advice: if you want to keep your burgers big and juicy, don't keep banging them on the head with your flipper while you are cooking them. Biggest mistake made by grillers everywhere, according to Ted.
