Brat Fest - Madison's Brat Fest sets world record
MADISON, Wis., USA -- A total 209,376 brats were
sold at this year's Brat
Fest on Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center
grounds in Madison - setting the new world record for the
Largest
Brat Fest.
The new world record tops the one set in
2009 by 624 brats, organizers said. Laid end to end, the brats
eaten last year would stretch nearly 20 miles, WISC-TV reported.
It was a fun weekend for tens of thousands
of people who have two things in common -- helping a good
cause and sharing a love for brats.
Tim Metcalfe, organizer of Brat
Fest, has his own theory as to why brats are so popular
around here. "It's our German heritage. It says something
about our work ethic, our sports teams. It's the end of winter,
the beginning of summer," Metcalfe said.
The Largest
Brat Fest in The World, which began 27 years ago at
the Sentry Hilldale parking lot, is now going strong at Willow
Island by Alliant Energy Center.
The World’s
Largest Brat Fest is held every Memorial Day Weekend
RAIN or SHINE! People come from all over the Midwest and some
even challenge themselves as to how many brats they can consume
over the four-day event.
