Longest lemonade stand: Beverly Students sets world record (HD Video)

Beverly Hills, MI, USA -- With the official length of 1,399 feet, 11 inches, the lemonade stand build by hundreds of students, parents and teachers from the Birmingham Public Schools District at Beverly Park in Beverly Hills, MI, sets the new world record for the Longest lemonade stand, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the longest bicycle track stand is 21.34 sec by Jim DeChamp (USA) at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest jug of soft drink: it measures 3.38 m (11 ft 11 in) tall and 7.87 m (25 ft 9 in) in circumference, and was created for an event organised by Kraft Foods (Brazil).

The World's Longest Lemonade Stand was 349 individual lemonade stands (350, considering that one stand was twice the regular 4-foot stand length) that were purchased by community members, area businesses and community organizations at $50 each.

The event has raised $50,000 so far, with more money coming in throughout the day in the form of lemonade, T-shirt and raffle ticket sales. Half of the proceeds, $25,000, was from sponsors, led by presenting sponsor Ernst & Young.

Part of the proceeds go directly to Birmingham Public Schools — an important point, Liebler said, as the idea for the event originated as a way to raise funds for schools in light of decreasing state aid.

Participants could also direct their proceeds to benefit various other educational organizations, including the Birmingham Education Foundation and Detroit Public Schools.

To set the world record, the stand could be in disparate parts but had to be continuous and officially sell lemonade for at least a few minutes.

Organizers passed two large glasses of lemonade from stand to stand to prove continuity, then measured the stand length with a tape measure.

Longest Lemonade Stand would like to thank to valued sponsors including: Ace Hardware, Achatz Pie Company, Beverly Community Education, Birmingham Pediatrics, Blvd Suites, Bolyard Lumber, Brady's Tavern, Dynamic Life Chiropractic, Edible Arrangements, Edward Jones, Ernst & Young, Girls Empowered, Goldfish, GS Leasing, Huron Capital, Marketing Associates, Northwestern Mutual, Pop Can Couture, Premier Pet Supply, Restyle Child, Robot Garage, Senior Helpers, Staffworks, Wolf Hulbert Insurance, and Wonderworks.
