Largest Spritz: Aperol breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)
ROME, Italy -- Costa Cruises, in partnership with Aperol, achieved a World Record aboard Costa Favolosa with the creation of the world's largest Spritz; the impressive 1000-liter version of the classic Aperol Spritz cocktail is almost twice the size of the previous record (573 liters), which was set in Italy in 2010, according to the World Record Academy.

The preparation was completed with the addition of 15 ice cubes (18x20cm each) and orange slices, essential elements to make the drink perfect. The Guinness World Records world record for the longest drinks can line consisted of 106,300 cans and was constructed by participants from Bridge FM Radio LTD and Bridgend County Borough Council (both UK) at the Bridgend Recreation Centre, Glamorgan County, Wales, on 26 November 2009.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people opening drink cans simultaneously; it is 1,149, achieved by Career Consulting Co., Ltd (Japan) in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, on 24 January 2016.
The world's largest Spritz was created strictly in line with the traditional recipe: 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 splash of soda, poured onto ice cubes and garnished with a single slice of orange. Contained in a classically shaped tumbler 1.5 meters (5 feet) high and 1.3 meters (4.2 feet) in diameter, the super-scale Spritz contained 500 liters of Prosecco, 333 liters of Aperol, 167 liters of soda water, and 15 giant ice cubes measuring 18 x 20cm (7 to 8 inches) each.
"The cruise sector is an important channel for our brands, and this record-breaking activity demonstrates how the strength of our partnership with leading operators such as Costa Crociere can bring engaging new elements to the passenger experience," said Leigh Irvine, Global Travel Retail Director, Gruppo Campari.
The record breaker was created as the centerpiece of a special cocktail party on Costa Favolosa during a 4-day Mediterranean cruise.
The main celebration, titled "Abbronzatissima" ("Tanned"), featured a 1950s poolside party theme with the Aperol Spritz served as the ultimate expression of the stylish aperitif.
