Sonoma County, CA, USA-- For Dutch 'milk addict and sommelier' Bas de Groot, cow's milk is more than an accompaniment to cereal—it's a liquid of serious complexity akin to a fine wine; this milk sommelier treats each taste like a sensory experience worthy of discernment and "terroir" exploration; he sets the world record for being the World's First Milk Sommelier, according to the World Record Academy.

The Guinness World Records world record for the First robot sommelier was set by NEC System Technologies and Mie University, Japan, which have developed a robot capable of tasting wine and recognizing the differences between a few dozen varieties. To "taste", the "wine-bot" fires an infrared beam through the wine and analyses the various wavelengths of light that are absorbed. A built-in speaker is used to announce the variety of wine selected.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest beer tasting; it consisted of 1,236 participants and was achieved by The Publican Awards (UK), in London, UK, on 15 March 2016.

Milk tastes different on each and every farm. Not only season but the time of the day also matters when it comes to milk.

Bas started his career as a therapist on health farms. During this work he became fascinated with the production methods, products and how they influence different values. He pursued an education path to become a biodynamic farmer and when qualified became one of the pioneers in the Urban Agriculture movement as co-founder of an Advocacy group, farmer of the biggest European Urban Farm and restaurant owner.

As a milk addict, he fell into the world of milk as 'Milk Sommelier' which is one of the projects of the creative bureau Voord&Wij. With Voord&Wij, he is combining his knowledge and passion of human culture, farm production, food and hospitality and developing concept experiences which are designed for collaboration.

"It started as a bit of a joke but since Bas became the expert, proudly using his title as milk sommelier. Holding courses, workshops tasting events, presenting various tastes of milk," What The Food reports.

Nowadays the question if the milk is healthy is very popular. In Bas's opinion it's not necessarily the most interesting question. Either if it's healthy or not, it can be a very tasteful refreshing drink. If we drink milk we should make sure we have the best quality. Bas himself is also an ardent milk drinker, he has minimum a liter, usually raw milk each day.
